In Tiantan, the artist evokes an extraordinary space where sky and earth meet. Rather than depicting a literal architectural structure, Murakami harnesses the expressive potential of Japanese painting—rich pigments, nuanced color, and subtle spatial depth—to suggest a realm that bridges the physical and the metaphysical. The upward gaze toward the heavens implied in the composition resonates with notions of human aspiration, reflection, and spiritual inquiry. 村上裕二氏はこれまで、滝や風景といった自然、地中海や中国の建造物、さらにはウルトラマンやゴジラ、仮面ライダーといった現代の象徴的存在まで、多様な題材を描いてきた。一見ばらばらに見えるそれらは、いずれも「人が何に畏れ、何に祈り、何に意味を見出してきたか」という問いへとつながっている。
Yuji Murakami has explored a wide range of subjects throughout his career, including natural motifs such as waterfalls, architectural landscapes of the Mediterranean and China, as well as iconic figures from Japanese popular culture such as Ultraman, Godzilla, and Kamen Rider. Though diverse in appearance, these subjects are connected by a consistent inquiry into what humans fear, revere, and transform into objects of belief.
