霧が深く立ち込める山々の連なりを、空と大地の境界でとらえた一作。富士という具体的な山を思わせながらも、その姿はあえて曖昧に描かれ、視覚と精神の間に広がる「雲海」という現象を象徴的に表現している。村上は、自然の力と時間の重なりを見つめる中で、実在の風景を超えた普遍的な〈空間〉と〈気配〉を追求してきた。本作は、物理的な地形を描くと同時に、観る者の内面に想像という余白を生む作品である。

村上裕二氏はこれまで、滝や風景といった自然、地中海や中国の建造物、さらにはウルトラマンやゴジラ、仮面ライダーといった現代の象徴的存在まで、多様な題材を描いてきた。一見ばらばらに見えるそれらは、いずれも「人が何に畏れ、何に祈り、何に意味を見出してきたか」という問いへとつながっている。
Yuji Murakami has explored a wide range of subjects throughout his career, including natural motifs such as waterfalls, architectural landscapes of the Mediterranean and China, as well as iconic figures from Japanese popular culture such as Ultraman, Godzilla, and Kamen Rider. Though diverse in appearance, these subjects are connected by a consistent inquiry into what humans fear, revere, and transform into objects of belief.
